An email to the teacher to excuse from class is a write-up drafted by a student for his teacher. In this write-up, a student apologizes and explains the situation due to which s/he couldn’t make up for a class. Writing an excuse letter shows that the student is responsible and values the timing of his teacher.
An excuse letter is written in two situations
- In advance
- After the day has passed
Writing an excuse letter in advance is a good option that lets your teacher know that you have a genuine reason for not attending class. In some situations, the teacher may postpone the class to a new schedule if the student’s presence is of utmost necessity. The teacher can also make some arrangements that bear minimum loss to the student.
Writing an excuse letter after the day has passed is unfavourable for the student. In this situation, the teacher cannot make time changes and suitable arrangements for helping stuff for the student. Writing an excuse letter is a little remedy for the event.

Respected Sir,
I hope you will be fine and enjoying good health. Today, while passing through the notice board in the corridor, I came to know that you have arranged a makeup class for all the students in order to overcome the deficiencies found in students’ studies. I am sending you this email to inform you that I will not be able to take this particular class. I know how important it is to attend this class and that’s why you have made it compulsory for all the students to take it.
I do not have any intention of missing that class, but I will be doing an important kind of work tomorrow. The reason is that my uncle suffered from a heart attack last Sunday. We took him to the hospital, and the doctor advised him to undergo bypass surgery as soon as possible. So tomorrow, he is undergoing the surgery.
Since my uncle has no son of his own, it is essential for me to remain present in the hospital to arrange food and medicines and to fulfil other formalities. This is the whole situation. I hope you will understand my problem and accept my genuine excuse. I will try my best to cover all the topics of that lecture.
I hope you will accept my excuse.
Yours obediently,
Anderson

Subject: Email to excuse from class
Dear Professor,
I hope you will be fine. First, I would like to say thanks for the sincere efforts you are putting in to make us able to pass our final exams. Yesterday, our CR announced in the class that Prof. Andrew had arranged an extra class for our final exam preparation. He also added that all the students must attend class. I was very excited at that moment. My excitement did not last so long. I am sorry to inform you that I will not be able to attend the class due to an urgent piece of work.
I really had no intention to leave the class. Despite knowing the decisive role of this class in our final exams, I am unable to take your lecture and, at this moment, submit my excuse. The reason is that on reaching home yesterday, my mother told me that she had an appointment with the doctor. The irony of fate was that the routine checkup date was the same as that of our class.
My father is out of the country for a business meeting. Since I am the only son of my parents, I am to take her to the hospital. I regret my actions and, therefore, am submitting my excuse for attending the extra preparatory class. I will try to manage things in the future.
I seek your pardon again and hope you will accept my excuse.
Yours obediently,
Anderson.
