Contents of a Meal Card
Here are all the elements and information a meal card contains.
- The first and most important information a meal card consists of is employee information. It contains the name of the employee, designation, and ID number. This information prevents misuse of the card and makes it non-transferrable. This also prevents card theft.
- A date of expiration is printed on the card. This makes sure every employee uses the provided meal funds within the given timeframe.
- A QR Code or chip on the card helps in loading funds and carrying out subsequent deductions when employees purchase their meals. This feature also allows a per-day spending limit to be imposed on the card so that multiple users are unable to use the same card.
- An organization may also provide a few instructions, such as conditions and fair-term policy reminders. These may be printed on the back of the card.

Designing a Meal Card
Organizations usually have customized meal cards for their employees. The design elements may differ for different offices. However, there are some common elements and design tips to keep in mind.
Here is what to remember while designing meal cards for employees.
- Provide the name and employee identification number clearly at the top of the card. This information should be bold with a font size that’s larger than the rest of the text on the card.
- Since meal cards are small – the standard card size – make sure the design is clean and well-organized. Avoid using unnecessary text and use an appropriate color contrast for the background and the font.
- There may be subtle images on the card, such as food icons that are relevant to the theme of the card. However. Using too many visual elements might make the design cluttered.
- If the organization needs any important instructions to be printed on the meal cards, these should be added at the back of the card so that we can focus on the important information, such as the employee’s name, at the front.
